Description
Our Eco-watching tour starts early in the morning, leaving by car to Cenad on the left bank of the river Mureș. The first stop is a natural meadow, one of the few preserved as specific habitat for ground squirrel (Spermophilus citellus), which found some of his few refuges in this place. The name of ”popândău” or ”poponete” is drawn to the position of standby which often take – vertical.
The eco-watching tour continues in the area, looking for the magnificent white-tailed eagle (Haliaeetus albicilla), that looks more like vultures than the rest of the eagles, being a protected species, becoming lately very rare encountered.
Following our incursion into the open landscape of the floodplain landscape, we can follow: nightingales, finches, many starlings, titmouse, tree pipit, flycatchers, etc.
Our next stop will be in Pecica at the Buffalo farm and Visitor Centre. At the farm are 17 copies of domestic buffalo. We will also have lunch in Pecica.
In the afternoon, our tour continues on the left side of the Mures river, in the Bezdin area, where a small path (circuit) through the maximum protected area (also the wildest), may offer the chance to see the big herbivores in situ. With a little luck, we can see albino fallow deers (Dama dama) – rare phenomenon in nature.
The tour continues with the next target in the Periam – Cenad area, where in the summer we can see specimens of the european roller (Coracias garrulus), and bee eaters (Merops apiaster) – also protected birds that delights the observer’s eye with their very exotic look and colors.
The day ends leaving the bushes harboring all living things visible and invisible, to go back to civilization, but with the desire to rediscover this life in the years ahead.
IMPORTANT: The program can be altered on the spot, depending on weather conditions and other relevant aspects such as the physical condition of the participants.
